History
In his early years, James Dedman worked at an iron foundry and at the Illinois Department of Transportation. He began his professional career as a school teacher in the public schools of Decatur. He then attended the University of Illinois in 1975. Licensed to practice in that year, he began his legal career as an Assistant State's Attorney in Coles County, IL. In 1981, he moved to Champaign County, IL, and became First Assistant Public Defender. After a few years, in 1987, he was named Interim State's Attorney for Dewitt County, IL. From 1988-1998 he was an associate history professor at Richland Community College. In 1989 he became an Assistant State's Attorney in Champaign County, IL. James Dedman entered private practice in 1997 with Brian Silverman, and formed the Dedman Law Office in 2007. He is the proud father of three grown daughters, grandfather of one, and has been happily married for 40 years.
